Revolution via Twitter

In case you haven’t heard yet, there are some riots going on in Moldova. The reason why people are so “upset” is because of the results of the recent elections. The communist political side has won (again) but everybody has strong reasons to believe that votes has been fraudulent. Everything started yesterday as a peaceful demonstration but in short time the demonstrators, gathered in the central square of Chisinau (capital of Moldova), entered in conflict with the authorities. From unofficial sources there are already victims on both sides.
The communist dictatorship has blocked almost every communication access in Chisinau (TV, Internet, Telephone and even cell phone coverage on certain spots) but the younger demonstrators has united on the internet and keep informing the mass-media around the world about the incident via Twitter, Youtube and Facebook. The Twitter hashtag used by the demonstrators (but not only) is #pman (PMAN is an acronym for “Piata Marii Adunari Nationale” the name of the central square from Chisinau). Another great source for latest info is http://pman.cloudapp.net
The censorship has even been extended on websites from Moldova and certain site has been blocked totally and on the public televisions are broadcasting cartoons and music shows, or in other words nothing relevant of what is happening in Moldova. As final updates the president of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, has declared the Romanian ambassador as persona non grata (shortly he must leave the territory of Moldova in 24 hours) and also he blame Romania as being responsable for the riots.
In any case I just wanted to underline the fact that Twitter (even if it’s already extremely popular) can always surprize us with events that can occur on it and the way people use it.
